UTA drops Susan Sarandon after pro-Palestinian remarks

United Talent Agency (UTA) has dropped Susan Sarandon as a client following remarks she made over the weekend in relation to the Israel-Hamas war.

“There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence,” the actress said at a rally in New York City’s Union Square, comparing that experience to the erosion of safety many Jews feel in the U.S. amid rising antisemitism.

Sarandon also reposted a tweet by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, who is known for his antisemitic remarks.

Asra Nomani, a Muslim American journalist, wrote a long post on X, formerly known as Twitter, refuting the implied assumptions underlying Sarandon’s comments.

“Please don’t minimize the experience of Jewish Americans by sanitizing the hell that it is for Muslims living in Muslim countries and vilifying America for the life — and freedoms — she offers Muslims like my family,” Nomani tweeted, describing the rules that constrain women’s daily lives in many Muslim-governed countries. “Go, live like a Muslim woman in a Muslim country. You will come back to America and kiss the land beneath your feet.”

The longtime activist had been with UTA since 2014. Upnewsdaily first reported the agency’s move, which said a spokesperson confirmed they had dropped the Oscar-winning actress.

Israel has been at war with Hamas since Oct. 7, when more than a thousand terrorists launched an attack on the south from Gaza, massacring at least 1,200 people and kidnapping more than 240 others, most of whom are still being held. Israel has conducted unremitting airstrikes since then, killing more than 11,000 Palestinians, two-thirds of them women and children, Gaza’s Health Ministry has said.
